Chapter 69 - Wolf’s Den
Since the fire, the laboratory had undergone some changes, including the addition of fire.
Inside, there was also a large black cauldron in the corner. It was the stereotypical kind of object witches are said to have in their homes, large enough to fit an adult for a bath.
The cauldron was boiling some strange liquid, bubbling, with occasional unknown objects swirling inside...
Suna heard the noise and looked up at Yang Yi, then continued to focus on her dissection.
She was wearing a mask and plastic gloves, holding what seemed to be the stomach of a half-werewolf, examining its contents.
A few seconds later, Suna spoke up, “This half-werewolf’s skeletal structure is deformed in many places; it’s better at running, but its brain shows signs of degeneration...”
“I didn’t ask for this,” Yang Yi immediately interrupted her long explanation. “What I want to know is whether you can make poison, like a Wolfbane Elixir, to kill the werewolves on this island in one fell swoop.”
Suna stopped her work, looked at Yang Yi, and replied,
“No!
The cells of these half-werewolves are highly active, and their metabolism is fast. If they were fully transformed, they might be even tougher, and toxins would be ineffective.”
Yang Yi frowned and shook his head. It seemed poison wouldn’t work here.
Not getting what he wanted, he was about to turn and leave, but then Suna called out,
“You’d better not get scratched or bitten by a werewolf. If you get infected with Lycanthropy, I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to turn you back.”
“Don’t worry, I can handle it!”
Yang Yi waved his hand and returned to the deck, heading towards the captain’s cabin.
When he emerged, he had changed into a new outfit, wearing a sweater, woolen trousers, spiderweb gloves, and tall velvet boots.
It wasn’t because he was afraid of the cold, but to protect himself from scratches.
Wearing something thicker still provided some protection.
And besides, Yang Yi had no intention of engaging in hand-to-hand combat with the creatures — there was no need for that!
Next, he checked the supplies he needed to bring, including weapons, potions, water, and dry food.
The potions included a Crimson Elixir, two bottles of Regeneration Elixir, and an unknown orange-yellow potion.
After making sure everything was ready, he assessed his status, confirming that everything was set. Then, he launched the raft and made his way back to the shore.
The coast was still calm, with the same few bodies lying around, and no new half-werewolves appeared.
Yang Yi felt the concentration of the half-werewolves there had to have a reason.
As for the ship on the island, it seemed like it was located in a place similar to a spider’s nest, so he decided to approach with caution.
First, he needed to figure out what had happened to these players before continuing his exploration.
On the way, Yang Yi found many scattered and disorderly footprints on the ground, most likely left by the half-werewolves.
There were also many claw marks on nearby trees, indicating that they frequently passed through the area.
As he went deeper, he found remnants of shells and scales on the ground, likely from fish and shellfish.
“It seems like they come to the coast to forage...”
Yang Yi followed the trail of food remnants and soon caught a strong, foul smell.
It was the stench of wild beasts, a mix of excrement, rot, and body odor, hard to describe.
He followed the source of the smell and, unsurprisingly, discovered the half-werewolves\' den.
A large pile of soft branches had been collected and spread out on the ground, with tattered clothing scraps hanging on top, resembling bedding.
Scattered around were numerous white human bones, completely stripped of any flesh.
Yang Yi casually picked up a bone and received some information.
【You picked up a bone】
Yang Yi picked up several bones and discovered that they were from different players.
After a quick count, he estimated that eight players had been killed and consumed by the group of half-werewolves.
He took a photo and sent it to Suna.
“Suna, I found the half-werewolves’ den. There are a lot of human bones here, indicating at least eight victims.”
Soon, Suna responded with a message.
“These half-werewolves have strong digestive abilities and are not picky eaters. I found rotten meat and bone fragments in their stomachs.
This suggests they are scavengers, and their digestive abilities are quite powerful.
The bones on the ground are likely too hard to chew, which is why they were left behind.
Once they fully transform into wolves, their biting force will increase, and by then, they won’t leave any bones behind...”
“Scavengers?”
Yang Yi read through the message and picked up a thigh bone that had many tooth marks on it.
It meant that the half-werewolves had bitten it, but didn’t break it.
Yang Yi even suspected that the bones were kept by the half-werewolves to sharpen their teeth.
“But this shouldn’t be from biting...”
He picked up a section of a neck vertebra, its cross-section flat, as if cut by a sharp tool like a knife or sword.
In Yang Yi’s experience, the creatures that most often used tools were humans.
“So, was it infighting? Or maybe there are other special creatures on the island?”
Yang Yi furrowed his brows, confused.
Just as he was about to leave, a flash of light caught his attention.
The reflection came from beneath some soft branches.

Yang Yi picked up a thigh bone and used it to move the branches aside.
“This is...”
What appeared before him was a pile of weapons and equipment: armour, longswords, shields, battle axes, and even a morning star, crossbows, and bows.
It seemed like these had been collected by the werewolves.
They might have forgotten how to use them, but subconsciously, they still remembered that these items were important, so they hid them beneath the branches.

There was one of each weapon, but the crossbow had seven, suggesting they had been mass-purchased.
“This group has some decent equipment — armour and weapons.
This hunting bow would be perfect for Suna.”
Yang Yi sent the details of the bow to Suna, then picked up the ironwood shield.
It had clear claw marks on it, not only ripping through the iron but almost penetrating the wooden shield as well.
“Are fully transformed werewolves this strong?” Yang Yi frowned.
He put on the chainmail and then stored the equipment in his storage bag, counting it as an extra gain.
Whoosh!
Yang Yi tested the crossbow — it fired, and there were bolts inside.
He opened the quiver to check and found it could hold 10 bolts, but they were custom-made, short and weak.
The mechanism was similar to a bolt-action rifle; after each shot, the quiver had to be pressed again to reload.
Though not as powerful as firearms, it was simpler than a bow, and the rate of fire was acceptable.
After collecting everything, Yang Yi left the werewolf den.
If all went as expected, the island should have seen a fierce battle, leaving traces of a battlefield. That should provide more clues.
