Chapter 222 - 242 Chs

222 Lashing Out

Blake’s foot was already raised, he was only one stomp away from breaking Jake’s other leg which was still healthy and had its bone intact. But right before Blake jerked his leg downward, he heard a voice calling out to him.

“Brother…” The voice was weak, either it was because she was shocked or she couldn’t believe what she was seeing, Amy’s voice was barely audible in Blake’s ears.

“Yes? What’s wrong, Amy?” After saying those words, Blake turned his head back toward the source of the sound. And what he saw greatly puzzled him.

He saw Amy’s face was filled with fear as her eyes darted from Blake then toward the screaming boy in front of him. Blake had never seen that look before in Amy, and he wondered why she would look at him like that.

“Is there something wrong?” Blake genuinely asked as he put his raised foot down and walked towards her.

“Don’t worry, Amy, he would not be able to bother us again. You should not be afraid of him anymore.”

Blake raised his hand slowly and was about to hold Amy’s shoulder. But as his hand neared her body, Amy flinched as she directed her frightened eyes toward Blake.

Seeing her expression, Blake had become more confused and stopped moving his hand. He then looked at Amy’s eyes once again, this time observing them closely as he took every detail from them. And soon, he found out that the look of fear that Amy had, happened whenever she looked at him and not at the boy that had just stopped screaming and started panting.

‘Me? She is afraid of me??’ Blake then turned his head back towards Jake, the screams had already ceased and right now, the boy was looking at him as if he was a monster, not that he cared about it and instead he wanted it to happen since that meant Jake’s soul would be very sweet by the time he harvested it.

.....

Blake then thought about the things that he did, wondering what would possibly scare his dear little sister, and soon he nodded in understanding as he found what had most likely scared her.

‘She must have been scared by that guy’s screaming.’

‘I should have put an isolation barrier first…’ Blake thought as he remembered the rune formation in his dimensional pouch. But then Blake shook his head as he remembered that he shouldn’t use any nether here and he needed to be aware of the CCTVs that might have caught him if he used nether.

‘Oh that’s right, there are CCTVs here too… I can’t take his soul here…’ Blake looked at Jake again, who still had his eyes staring in Blake’s direction. And when their eyes met, Jake flinched as he instinctively jerked his head backward, colliding it with the wall that he had been leaning on. But the pain from having the back of his head knocked onto the wall was negligible as the shock and fear that he felt when seeing Blake was more than enough to shroud the slight amount of pain.

‘I guess this will do for now, Amy was already scared when she heard the screams and I couldn’t take his soul here either…’

“Let’s go back, Amy,” Blake said as he led the way back to the orphanage. He wanted to hold Amy’s hand and drag her out of there, but remembering she was probably still in a state of shock, he let her follow him at her own pace, and instead, his now little gorilla friend followed him and jumped onto his shoulder again.

“How did I do, pal?” Blake turned his head to ask his best friend who was a close-quarter combat expert.

“Rrrr.” (The enemy was very weak, but you did okay for someone who never swung their fists at all.)

“Eh? That’s quite a harsh evaluation for me. Not that I can really use my fists properly.” Blake shrugged as he continued his walk slowly so that Amy would be able to catch up to him.

Along their way back, Amy had already caught up to him, but she didn’t say a single word along the way.

‘Poor Amy, she must have been really shocked by it… I should have really made an isolation barrier next time or done it where she couldn’t see me.’

And when they were only a couple more turns from reaching the orphanage, Amy finally spoke again for the first time.

“Brother… Why did you do it?” Her voice was still trembling, albeit a little.

“Do what?” Blake tilted his head as he heard her question. His memory never failed him, but he didn’t know what she meant by that question.

“Why are you so cruel towards him?”

“Him? Who?” Blake then stopped saying anything and recalled in his mind.

“You mean Jake? That boy earlier?”

“Yes…” Amy timidly answered with her head down, her eyes barely able to look up toward Blake.

“What do you mean cruel? He’s trying to hurt us and I prevented him from doing it, what’s wrong with that?” Blake was genuinely confused, and he didn’t understand the base of thinking that Amy used to ask him that question in the first place.

“I know… But do you need to be so harsh on him? You could have dealt with him just like how you did with the other two people.” Amy tried her best to not stumble on her words.

“Brother, I’m really happy now that you can fight back and not be bullied by those guys anymore, but you… you have changed…” Amy was barely able to finish her last few words without choking them on her throat.

“Me? Changed? How??” Blake stopped walking to turn and look at Amy.

“You seem to be more… Violent…”

“Me? Violent? I didn’t do anything other than break a single bone. After what he did to me all those years, a single bone breaking was no way enough to make him pay for what he did.”

“A single bone breaking might be enough for him to scream his lungs out, but years and years of constant beating is more painful than an instantaneous pain, no?”

“Compared to what I’ve felt, the feeling of being powerless, my inability to do anything as he did whatever he wanted to me, kicking me and punching me because I did nothing other than ranking higher in the test, forcing myself to swallow whatever happened to me without doing anything back because I couldn’t afford to, isn’t breaking a single bone is too cheap to pay for all that?”

“How am I the one who’s violent!?”

Blake did not feel it before, but as more and more words came out of his mouth, the volume of his voice rose, and the more his tone sharpened. He had only become aware of this because of the look on Amy’s face and the fact that she had taken a few steps back from him.

“I…”

“I’m sorry…” Blake said as he turned his body the opposite way and started running.

And with his speed, he quickly went out of Amy’s sight, not being aware of Amy’s extended hand, trying to reach out to him.

Moving away from the orphanage, Blake found himself back at the park where he and Amy talked before. Now instead of Amy beside him, Robus was playing with the swing, swinging front and back as he found the sensation familiar to when he leaped high and far with his own feet, albeit it was a watered-down version of it.

“I should have not lashed out at her, right, Robus…?”

“Rrr. rr” (You were only talking about how you feel. I can’t understand why you felt like this.)

With the connection shared between the two of them, Robus could feel the guilt and remorse that clouded both Blake’s mind and heart right now. And in turn, Blake could also feel the confusion in Robus’ mind when he felt what Blake felt.

“Well, to be fair, I have never spoken to her like that. I always wanted to make her smile, which in turn, would make me smile. I couldn’t bring up my pent-up feelings to her.”

“I understand that she would be scared if I suddenly lashed out at her, telling her how I felt about that feeble guy.”

‘That feeble guy huh…’ When he said these words, the image that appeared in Blake’s mind was not Jake, the boy that he had just beaten up. But instead, it was someone else that he knew very well, so well that he knew the ins and outs of this person, even his thoughts.

“Haaa….” Blake heaved a huge sigh, releasing some of his jumbled thoughts from his head.

“I should apologize to her.” Blake decided as he got up from the swing and started walking back to the orphanage. Taking his time well as he began arranging the words that he wanted to say to Amy.
